Expressive landscape: another experiment

23 x 30cm, acrylic on paper – an experiment with coloured gesso and sandpaper

This time I added powdered paint to the gesso (Brusho vermillion) – then I painted a blue green layer and then two coats of white. The vermillion leached through into the white – turning this a kind of coral pink. Some areas sanded away look and feel like terracotta. The whole thing has a slightly sculptural feel. As a portrait image, it feels like a waterfall. It seems to have foam and crashing energy.

And if I turn it around, I think of a wave. It would, I believe, be possible to redraw/paint it so that it has a more wave like form – like Hokusai’s wave – and with the colours of the sea.

See earlier gesso experiment.
