Exercise: Primary and secondary colour mixing

For the most intense colours from the acrylics I had available,  I selected Medium Yellow, Brilliant Red and Ultramarine.

It was interesting to see how the white brings out the hue of the darker colours when doing the colour scale exercises. These now make useful colour references so I’ve pasted them into my sketchbook so I don’t lose them.

mixing-violetMixing violet was difficult… I resorted to looking it up on the web and found that I was going wrong because I was using a yellow red (Brilliant red) and if you mix yellow, red and blue together… what do you get? Brown. I switched to a blue red (Alizarin crimson) and got a better result but nowhere near as good as the ready mixed Winsor Violet.
